Shaws San Francisco was opened on West Portal by Douglas Shaw in 1931. Shaw created a gourmet line of chocolates and ice cream and initially named the business "Karamel Corn." He moved his candy manufacturing from the back of this store to Millbrae and expanded to a fifty store chain before going out of business. This original location is a San Francisco institution, neighborhood favorite and last remaining Shaws.

Shaw’s also carries another San Francsico favorite, Mitchell's Ice Cream.
