There are occasional sightings of "Sam Houston was here" and "Davy Crockett was here" in the counties along the Red River in North Texas, and this is one of them. The historic J.M. Early House once stood here, but it is long gone, with a few traces remaining. The memorial is between where the Early House was and where another house still stands today. It says:

In Memory Of
David Crockett

Who rested here while on his
way to fight for Texas liberty

Joseph Ligon Chapter D.A.R.
1955
