In 1787 the commission to build this bridge was given to architect Jean-Rodolphe Perronet. Construction continued during the French Revolution using stones taken from the demolished Bastille. The bridge was completed in 1791.
The Pont de la Concorde has a total length of 153 meters with five arches having spans of 25 meters - 28 meters - 31 meters - 28 meters - 25 meters. From 1930 - 1932 the bridge was widened by the engineering firm of Deval and Malet, doubling the width of the bridge yet retaining its original Neo-classical appearance.
