The Wood County Infirmary was built in 1869 to cater to the needs of Wood County residents. It was in operation from 1869 until 1971, when patients were transferred to a new facility.
The Infirmary was scheduled for demolition, but local historical groups managed to save it and the surrounding buildings as a museum and historical park.
The Infirmary also included a separate building for mental patients, called the Lunatic House, and 2 "Pest Houses" for those afflicted with communicable diseases.
It is now listed on the Register as the Wood County Historical Center and Museum. It was added to the NRHP in 1979.
