"Come sit...Remember" Jane and Ken Benson were veterinarians, graduates of Cornell. They had eight children and led a life of service and community involvement. They were promoters of the General Clinton Park and Regatta.

"Dr. Jane W. Benson, 87, died Wednesday August 28, 2013 at her home in Bainbridge. ...Jane was a pioneer for woman veterinarians. She graduated for Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1947, one of four women in her class. In 1949, Ken & Jane settled in Bainbridge and began a 60 year career as veterinarians; ...Her love of singing led her to share her talents with the church choir, Tri Town Theatre and the Binghamton Downtown Singers. .. volunteering as the Treasurer, choir director, and for the soup kitchen and food pantry. She also volunteered as Girl Scout leader, delivered meals on Wheels, and for hospice. She, along with Ken, was very involved with the General Clinton Canoe Regatta having been a part of it from its inception. .. She even competed and finished the 70 mile race a couple of times. In 2002, she was recipient of the First Lady of the Year award by the Beta Sigma Phi...During her life she traveled to Africa a number of times. In 1968, she spent a year with her whole family in Ghana where she assisted her husband as a professor of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Ghana."

"Dr. Kenneth W. Benson, 87, died Sunday, January 2, 2011 at his home in Bainbridge...In January of 1948, Kenneth graduated from Cornell University as a Doctor of Veterinary medicine. In 1949, he settled in Bainbridge and began a lifelong Veterinary practice serving many dairy farmers in the area...He was a veteran of World War II, serving in both the Army and Navy. He was a member of the Shriners and used his association with the Shriners to refer area kids to receive the hospitable services of the Shriners...He was a member of the Bainbridge Chamber of Commerce, where he was one of the original promoters of the General Clinton Park and Canoe Regatta. During his many years of volunteer service with the Canoe Regatta, he held positions as Regatta Chairman, Riverfront Chairperson, Chairman of the Chamber Booth, and headed "Docs" Chicken Barbecue...During his life, he traveled to Africa a number of times. In 1968, he served as a professor of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Ghana. In 1974, he traveled to Tanzania to evaluate the Rotary's Heifer Project. In 1982, he traveled back to Ghana to evaluate the Rotary well project. Later, he led the Rotary's GSE team in Nigeria."
