The Fisher Company was synonymous with car bodies, not only in Detroit, but in Walkerville, ON. At its peak, the plants churned out over 370,000 car bodies a year for brands such as Abbot, Buick, Cadillac, Chalmers, Chandler, Chevrolet, Churchfield, Elmore, EMF, Ford, Herreshoff, Hudson, Krit, Oldsmobile, Packard, Regal, and Studebaker.

Fisher Plant 21 opened in 1921 and remained in operation until 1974, when operations were moved to other Fisher plants. It served as a homeless shelter and soup kitchen during the Great Depression, and manufactured aircraft during World War II. Today the building stands abandoned, left to the ravages of time, weather and vandals.

In 2004 it was designated as part of the Piquette Avenue Historic Industrial District.
