The City of Peru and the City of La Salle are next to each other on the Illinois River in La Salle County. Population of Peru is about 9,800. In its early days, it was a busy river port. Now it is a regional commercial center.
I was in the area north of the town on business, and I must have entered the town on a back road because I did not see any signs. I got to Main Street but with having to keep an eye on my driving, I did not see any obvious signs that said Peru. Even the post office just said US Post Office and not Peru. I finally came across the fire station.
