The architect was Gervase Wheeler from New York City.
"In 1849 a group split over the abolition issue and formed a new Congregational church.
In 1912 Reverend Washington Gladden who had been part of the split retired to Owego. He observed a vacant pulpit at the Presbyterian Church and an able pastor at the Congregational Church. He suggested that Reverend Arnold Bloomfield of the Congregational Church be called to fill the vacant pulpit and its members be invited to rejoin the Presbyterian Church. Thus in 1912 we became the First Presbyterian Union Church."
