V lidovém, podání tu prý stávala tvrz nebo klášter. Ve skutecnosti jde o staré poutní místo, na kterém byla nakonec vystavena kaple. Po skoncení tricetileté války v roce 1648 nastalo i na Morave období míru. Soucasne však také vrcholila protireformace a vítezná katolická církev upevnovala svoji moc. Byly zavádeny kulty nových svatých, byla zakládána náboženská bratrství, organizovaly se poute a procesí. V krajine pribývalo drobných církevních staveb (krížových cest, kaplí, božích muk). Velkého rozšírení doznal též kult svatého Antonína.
Svatý Antonín z Padovy byl velmi oblíben u Cechu i Nemcu. Na známém obraze, který namaloval malír španelského baroka El Greco (1541-1614), je sv. Antonín zobrazen ve františkánském rouchu, na levé ruce má Ježíška a v pavé drží bílou lilii jako symbol nevinnosti. V ceských zemích i jinde vznikají svatoantonínská bratrstva, která z daru zbožných verících stavejí a udržují kaple. Napr. v Dolních Kounicích byla postavena v roce 1654, v Blatnici pod sv. Antonínkem v roce 1668.

Kaple se obvykle staví na vyvýšených místech, aby na poutníky pusobila krása kraje a zároven aby clovek byl blíže Bohu. Také odsud se nabízí výhled do krajiny jak na obec Pernou tak na Dolní Dunajovice (vpravo).
V roce 1650 byla velká úroda vína a tak se sedláci z Klentnice, Perné a dnes zatopeného Mušova dohodli, že cást výnosu venují na postavení poutní kaple sv. Antonína. Ta byla postavena v roce 1652. V letech 1720-1722 žil pri kapli poustevník. Poustevníka v 17. století si však nelze predstavovat jako muže žijícího v hlubokém lese, který se živí lesními plody. I zdejší poustevník žil sice na samote u kaple, ale nedaleko vsi, aby mel snadnejší živobytí, nebot zdrojem jeho obživy byla almužna nebo žebrota. Navíc dostával od obce urcitý plat za zvonictví a za správcovství kaple. Celé toto období skoncilo koncem 18. století za vlády císare Josefa II.
V roce 1782 byli zrušeni poustevníci a v roce 1784 byly zakázány poute a procesí. Tento zákaz však Josefuv nástupce Leopold II. odvolal. V roce 1783 byl v Klentnici postaven kostel a obyvatelé Klentnice už o kapli nemeli zájem. Veškeré jmení kaplí a církevních bratrstev tehdy konfiskoval stát pro tzv. náboženský fond. I tato kaple byla zrušena a v roce 1786 v dražbe prodána za 124 zlatých na stavební materiál. Zvon z kaple byl premísten na vež kostela v Perné a za II. svetové války byl roztaven. Socha sv. Antonína, která stávala ve výklenku zdi, byla v roce 1923 prevezena do Perné, kde je dosud. Ac bývala kaple už dávno v troskách, ješte ve druhé pol. 19. stol. sem pricházeli poutníci z Rakouska. Dnes zbývá jen pulkruhový kousek zdi s výklenkem pro sochu a 6m vysoký a 27,5 m dlouhý obezdený kamenný val s vyhlídkou na Stolovou horu a Sirotcí hrádek nad Klentnicí.
