This historical marker is located near the Walker Hall, a college dormitory. The text reads:
2009 Walker Hall
Walker Hall, named in memory of former Oklahoma City University Trustee Mrs. May M. Walker, opened in the fall of 1967. Consecrated in a ceremony held on January 27, 1968, the seven-story structure was built to house 252 women and was the first university dormitory in Oklahoma to feature the split-triple room concept. It was the first OCU residence hall equipped with central air conditioning, as well as electronically monitored temperature, fire-control, and mechanical operations. A fire which destroyed a portion of the second floor on February 9, 1994, resulted in the construction of four private suites and precipitated a ban on candles in the residence halls. Walker Hall’s basement offers two acoustically engineered music studios.
