Das Werk II ist ein soziokulturelles Zentrum im Leipziger Stadtteil Connewitz mit verschiedenen Vereinen, einem Café, einem Theater, Werkstätten und mehreren Veranstaltungshallen für Konzerte, Lesungen und Märkte.
Vor ca. 168 Jahren (1848) wurden die mittlerweile alten Gemäuer vom Franzosen Ed. Siry erbaut, der hier in dem damals dörflich geprägtem Connewitz eine Fabrik für Gasmesseranlagen gründete. Dieses Unternehmen wurde etwa 40 Jahre später durch die Firma 'Schirmer, Richter & Co' übernommen, die während der NS-Zeit auch Zwangsarbeiter einsetzte. (mehr dazu unter: (
visit link) Mit der Übernahme zum Betriebsteil 'VEB Werkstoffprüfmaschinen Leipzig' im Jahr 1952 erhielt die Fabrik schließlich ihren noch heute gültigen Namen 'Werk II'.
Seit der Gründung des Leipziger Kulturzentrum Connewitzer Kreuz e.V. (später in WERK 2 – Kulturfabrik Leipzig e.V. umbenannt) im Jahr 1992 stehen die Maschinen in den alten Hallen still und aus der Produktionsfabrik wurde eine Kulturfabrik.

The Werk II is a socio-cultural center in a southern district of Leipzig with different clubs, a cafe, a theater, studios and several event halls for concerts, readings and markets.
About 168 years ago (1848), the old walls were built by the Frenchman Ed. Siry, who establish a factory for gas meter installations in the small village Connewitz. About 40 years later the company has been adopted by 'Schirmer, Richter & Co' , who use forced laborers during the Nazi era. (more about this: (

Since the establishment of the 'Leipziger Kulturzentrum Connewitzer Kreuz e.V.' (later renamed in 'WERK 2 - Kulturfabrik Leipzig e.V.') in the year 1992, in the old halls the machines stand still and the production factory became a culture factory.
