A bronze sculpture of 5 meters, facing the sea, which pays tribute to a man: Michel Edouard Jean Crépeau. Michel Crépeau is a lawyer and politician, born October 30, 1930 in Fontenay-le-Comte (Vendée) and died on 30 March 1999 in Paris. In March 1971 he was elected Mayor of La Rochelle, a position he held until his death. It takes many initiatives in the fields of environment, urban planning and culture. It blocks the buildings on the coast, extending green areas, set up a waste recycling service in 1973 opened the first pedestrian area of ??France in 1975, and a free self-service 400 yellow bikes in 1976. Une sculpture en bronze de 5 mètres, face à la mer, qui rend hommage à un homme : Michel Édouard Jean Crépeau. Michel Crépeau est un avocat et homme politique, né le 30 octobre 1930 à Fontenay-le-Comte (Vendée) et mort le 30 mars 1999 à Paris. En mars 1971, il est élu Maire de La Rochelle, fonction qu'il occupera jusqu'à sa mort. Il prend alors de nombreuses initiatives dans les domaines de l'environnement, de l'urbanisme et de la culture. Il bloque les constructions sur le littoral, étend les espaces verts, met en place un service de recyclage des déchets en 1973, inaugure le premier secteur piétonnier de France en 1975, et un libre-service gratuit de 400 vélos jaunes en 1976. En 1981, il est Ministre de l'Environnement et en 1983, il est nommé Ministre du Commerce et de l'Artisanat et son portefeuille est étendu au Tourisme dans le gouvernement de Laurent Fabius en 1984. En 1992, il pose la première pierre de l'Université de La Rochelle aux côtés de François Mitterrand et plus tard, il lance la construction du Technoforum, du Palais des Congrès, et déménage le Port de Pêche à Chef de Baie. En 1995, il met en place un réseau de location de voitures électriques. Le 23 mars 1999, il est victime d'un arrêt cardiaque en pleine séance parlementaire. Il décèdera quelques jours plus tard à l'hôpital. Il avait 68 ans. C'est l'auteur François Cante-Pacos qui lui dédie cette sculpture qui se déchiffre en quelques mots : une écluse, une bouée, une coque de bateau, un quai… La sculpture est inaugurée le dimanche 29 mars 2009 en présence de 2 000 à 3 000 personnes, anonymes et élus de tous bords, dont l'ancien Premier Ministre Lionel Jospin.
