On the north side of the gate to the entrance to Columbia University a 12' by 3' by 2.75' granite, allegorical, sculpture representing science stands on a 5' by 4.67' by 3' granite pedestal. The sculpture was created by Charles Keck and dedicated on June 3, 1925.

A male figure, representing science is wearing a classical robe that covers his left shoulder and the lower part of his body leaving his upper torso bare. He is holding the robe bu his right hand up to his right shoulder. In the palm of his left hand he is holding a drawing compass and a globe on which is inscribed the word SCIENTIA.
