The area became known as Limerock due to the quarries and kilns located in the district.

The district includes 21 buildings dating back to the 18th century. The commercial center of the district (where WM) contains 2 taverns, 2 stores, a bank building and a Masonic Lodge. The Conklin Limestone Company, once called Harris Quarry where limestone was extracted.
