A 16" gun turret explosion took the lives of 47 sailors, April 1989. Between the Navy and the Senate, the cause was undetermined. Wherever one is, the safety of everyone is dependent upon those around them.

The Battleship IOWA, BB61, was also known as the Grey Ghost.
One theory was that the powder load was too great.
Another theorized a personnel conflict.

Whatever the cause, the result was devastating to the families and shipmates.
This was not the location of the disaster, nor could I discern that.
Since 2012, the U S S Iowa has been a museum at the port of Los Angeles.
