The district includes 21 buildings dating back to the 18th century. The commercial center of the district (where WM) contains 2 taverns, 2 stores, a bank building and a Masonic Lodge. The Conklin Limestone Company, once called Harris Quarry where limestone was extracted.
Notable buildings are:
Mowry Tavern built c.1800 at tavern and a stop on the travels from Providence thru Mendon and Worcester MA.
Valentine Whitman House a stone-ender home built in 1694. The first town meeting for Smithfield was held here in 1730.
Conklin Limestone Company, a limestone quarry. The crusher is prominent on the site.
Limerock Grange built in 1807 served as a tollhouse by the Turnpike Comany
