"On Nov. 9, the Candor Emergency Squad held its annual pork chop barbecue and open house. The event is one of the squad’s main fundraisers, but it is also intended as an important means of attracting new recruits...The squad had house numbers available for $10 for one-sided posting and $12 for enough numbers to post both sides of a mailbox. Starkweather explained that reflective numbering can mean the difference between life and death since it may enable first responders to locate an address more quickly in emergency situations."
