His cenotaph is a small, gray, granite marker that stands behind his parents's headstone. It says:

In Memory
Lowell C. Hodges
Mar. 26, 1925
July 29, 1944
Killed WWII
Buried on the Guam Island

--

It may not be that easy, as Private Hodges is listed in the Courts of the Missing on the Honolulu Memorial. His record at the American Battle Monuments Commission (see link) supports this, indicating that he was with the U.S. Army's 307th Infantry Regiment, 77th Infantry Division, "Buried at Sea" The National Park Service lists him as wounded in action and a casualty during the Battle of Guam, which took place between July 10 and August 21, 1944. It is possible that his remains were initially buried on Guam, and when an opportunity for re-interment was available, there was not enough to recover or what remained was buried at sea, resulting in his being listed as "missing."
