"Early settler John Barker brought both his name and his family from Branford, Connecticut to what was then still part of Tioga County. In 1795 Simeon Rogers built the 1st mill & the 1st inn. The town of Barker was separated from the Old State of Lisle in 1831, and in 1840 became part of Chenango County. Located along the Tioughnioga River, the town of Barker encompasses the Chenango Valley State Park (near the village of Chenango Forks) which includes many fine bike trails."

"This is one of the most infamous courts in Broome County with a multitude of State Troopers and local officers patrolling the roadways, waiting for speeders trying to make their way Upstate or back down to Pennsylvania from Canada. Interstate I-81 passes right through the middle of the town and, as such, we see a lot of high 4-point and 6-point speeding tickets"
