A small sign on the historic Sepulveda House building, now shops and a museum.
The sign reads as follows:
SEPULVEDA HOUSE
1887
Eloisa Martinez Sepulveda built this Eastlake Victorian style structure for use as stores and as a boarding house. After Olivera Street had been transformed into a Mexican marketplace in 1930, the cellar and first floor of this building were rented to artisans and shopkeepers, while the second floor became a center for artists and craftsmen, and boasted an import shop and the tea room. During the 1930s, the Yale Puppeteers maintained a theater on the first floor, and in World War II it housed a USO canteen. Now it serves as the Park’s Visitors and Orientation Center and has exhibits illustrating life in Los Angeles in the 1890s."
