Prírodní památka Letište Marchanice o rozloze 47 ha se nachází severovýchodne od mesta Vyškov, v nadmorské výšce 266 az 276m. Chránené území, které bylo vyhlášeno v roce 2013, je soucástí soustavy Natura 2000 jako evropsky významná lokalita.

Z geomorfologického hlediska spadá území do Ivanovické brány. V podloží prevažují spraše a sprašové hlíny, na nichž se vyvinula cernozem. Letištní travnatá plocha predstavuje vhodný biotop pro populaci sysla obecného (Spermophilus citellus). Vegetace je tvorena prevážne krátko stébelnými trávníky.
Letište vzniklo pred 2. svetovou válkou pro vojenské úcely. V poválecném období bylo využíváno pro provoz sportovních a vojenských letadel. V soucasnosti je sportovním areálem pro malá motorová letadla a vetrone.

Sysel obecný je hlodavec z celedi veverkovitých, ale na rozdíl od príbuzné veverky, je to hlodavec zemní. Podzemnímu zpusobu života je sysel dobre prizpusoben. Dorustá délky okolo 20 centimetru a dosahuje váhy 200 až 400 gramu. Jeho hustá prilnavá srst má hnedavou až pískove-šedou barvu, pouze okolo velkých cerných ocí a na prední strane krku je svetlejší až belavá. Má krátký ocásek a malé ušní boltce.

Pouched general is a rodent of the squirrel family, but unlike related squirrels, rodent's earth. Underground way of life is well adapted ground squirrel. It grows to a length of about 20 cm and achieves weight 200-400 g. Its thick coat is sticky or sandy brownish-gray color, only around large black eyes on the front of the neck is lighter to whitish. It has a short tail and small ears.
