This bust was erected in honor of Capt. G. Allen Hancock, who donated his property here in Hancock Park to the citizens of Los Angeles with the stipulation that the fossils and tar pits be reserved for scientific study.
Hancock's head and shoulders are shown centered in a 4-foot tall rectangular base covered in grey stucco. He wears a pleasant expression, and is dressed in a suit and tie. The tie is slightly askew. The figure of Hancock appears to be life sized.
The plaque underneath the bust reads as follows:
"CAPTAIN G. ALLAN HANCOCK
Donor of Hancock Park
To the people of
Los Angeles County
1916
Placed June 13, 1963"
