The Plaza de España complex is a semi-circular plaza designed by Aníbal González. The plaza and the surrounding buildings were constructed for the Ibero-American Exposition of 1929. The building is separated from the plaza by a moat which is spanned by beautiful, ornate bridges. On walls of the building, underneath a series of arches to the left and right of the central part of the building, are colorful tiled alcoves that represent various province of Spain. The focal point of the plaza is a large circular fountain.
