he Col Ferret place name commonly indicates the Grand Col Ferret (2537 meters), the highest stage of the Tour of Mont Blanc, very popular because of its easy access from both sides. In particular, the rise of the Italian side is favored by the Elena refuge.
To the north of this pass is the Col du Petit Ferret (2490 meters), significant in that it marks the division between the Western Alps (the Alps grated) and the central Alps (the Pennine Alps). It also separates the Mont Blanc Massif of Gran Golliaz group. Access to this neck is more difficult because of the greater slope of the ground. In the Italian Val Ferret are the Fiorio bivouac that served the basin of the Glacier de Pré de Bar.
Both passes are separated by the Head Ferret (2713 meters).
