The plaque on the building reads "This Adam style house was built in 1783 for William Tebbutt whose monument is in St Peter's Church. Formerly known as Mountsorel Hall, it was a vicarage until 1983 and William Gladstone's birthplace, built in Liverpool in 1790, was a copy of this".
