In Dedham, within Brookdale Cemetery, is this memorial to Vietnam War veterans, POW-MIA.

The cemetery is located along Brookdale Avenue. The best way to the cemetery is from High Street. After turning onto Brookdale Avenue, turn right at the curve and go through the gate. Turn left, immediately, and travel a short distance to the monument on the right.

The monument is made of starkly dark and light stone. The base is a white stone and is much wider than tall. The center section is made of an almost black stone. On the surface, parts are blasted or engraved, resulting in grey areas, and the letters, I believe, are painted white. The circular feature has images of Vietnam, a helicopter, a gun and hat, and a small boat. At the bottom is an image that incorporates barbed wire, hands tied, the initials, "P.O.W." and "M.I.A." and the words, "Lest we forget. The main text is as follows:

"Dedicated to the men and women of who served their country with honor and valor and the lasting memory of those who gave their lives during the Vietnam War"

Below that are names of people including the name, military branch, and year of death. One of the men listed is John Barnes who is a medal of honor recipient. The last one has the initials, M.I.A. before the date.

On the white panels to the left and right are engraved the logos of the military branches surrounding a star. Don't forget to look on the back - a full-size image of a soldier in the middle, with wreaths on either side.

The monument is surrounded by landscaping wood chips and bushes, then a sidewalk.
