"1943 Anteros, provisional designation 1973 EC, is a reddish asteroid classified as near-Earth object. It measures about 2 kilometers in diameter and is a member of the Amor asteroids, a subgroup of near-Earth asteroids which approach the orbit of Earth from beyond but do not cross it. It was discovered by astronomer James B. Gibson at the Leoncito Astronomical Complex in Argentina on 13 March 1973.

The body orbits the Sun at a distance of 1.1–1.8 AU once every 1.71 years (625 days). It has a rotation period of 2.867 hours and an albedo in the range of 0.14–0.18. It is a stony, relatively rare L-type asteroid in the SMASS classification scheme, described as a reddish, but otherwise featureless S-type asteroid. Anteros has an eccentric orbit of 0.26, which is tilted by 8.7 degrees to the plane of the ecliptic. Its Earth minimum orbit intersection distance (MOID) is 0.0622 AU (9,300,000 km; 5,780,000 mi), which is only slightly larger than 0.05 AU, the limit set for classifying asteroids as potentially hazardous objects.

The asteroid was named after the Greek god Anteros, avenger of unrequited love and punisher of those who scorn love and the advances of others. The asteroid's name may have been chosen because its orbit is similar to the asteroid 433 Eros, and in Greek mythology, Anteros was said to be the twin brother of Eros." Text Source: (visit link)

Anteros - God of requited love - Also referred to as The Angel of Christian Charity, often mistaken for his brother Eros. & sometimes the Roman God 'Cupid'

Anteros stands atop a exact replica of the Shaftesbury Memorial Fountain. Original located in the heart of London, in Piccadilly Circus, Great Britain.

The copy Shaftsbury memorial fountain, featuring Anteros is located at the Harry Potter exhibit, at Amity Avenue, Universal Studios, Orlando, Florida, USA.

"Anteros was a God in Greek mythology, representing requited love, and punishing those who were not interested in love or not returning other people’s love. He was the son of the god Ares and the goddess Aphrodite, and brother of the god of love, Eros. Anteros had a similar description to Eros, bearing either a golden club or lead arrows, but his wings were plumed and likening those of a butterfly. Both brothers were companions of their mother Aphrodite. The statue in Piccadilly Circus in London depicts Anteros as a symbol of the selfless love of the Earl of Shaftesbury for the poor; it is not a statue of Eros as it is commonly mistaken." "In Greek mythology, Anteros was the god of requited love, literally "love returned" or "counter-love" and also the punisher of those who scorn love and the advances of others, or the avenger of unrequited love.

Anteros was the son of Ares and Aphrodite in Greek mythology, given as a playmate to his brother Eros, who was lonely – the rationale being that love must be answered if it is to prosper. Alternatively, he was said to have arisen from the mutual love between Poseidon and Nerites. Physically, he is depicted as similar to Eros in every way, but with long hair and plumed butterfly wings. He has been described also as armed with either a golden club or arrows of lead.

Anteros, with Eros, was one of a host of winged love gods called Erotes, the ever-youthful winged gods of love, usually depicted as winged boys in the company of Aphrodite or her attendant goddesses." text Source: (visit link)

"The famous London statue rising above the tourists and traffic in Piccadilly Circus has been the victim of mistaken identity for almost its entire existence.

Commonly referred to as Eros, the Greek god of love, the statue is in fact (and has always been) a depiction of Anteros - Eros's brother.

Other names for the statue include the Shaftesbury Monument and the Angel Of Christian Charity.

Sculptor Alfred Gilbert even called his creation Anteros, but it hasn't stopped scores of tourists - and Londoners alike - naming him after his brother Eros (or, worse still, the Roman god Cupid)." Text Source & Read more: (visit link)
