In 1953 the Providence Union Bank merged with the Industrial Trust to form the Industrial National Bank. In 1958 the First National Bank of Smithfield absorbed the Industrial National Bank. All of these banks became Fleet Financail Corp which became Bank of America thru additional mergers and acquisitions.
