"Our history indicates that in 1843 Reverend Levi Pitts organized a Class of 30 members in Killawog. In 1860 the Class met for a time in the school house on the west side of the river, later meetings were held in the home of Merritt Hoyt.

In 1866 the members of the Class took steps to build a Church for a permanent place to worship. The site was secured from John LaGrange for $125.00 and plans were drawn for a building measuring 40 x 32 feet with posts 20 feet high. William Gowdy was engaged to erect the building which was to be completed on or before December 1, 1866. Total cost of building, painting and furnishings including the lot was $2,247.00.

The Church was dedicated on January 7, 1867."
