The C.M.L. office building in which the clock is housed was erected in 1925-27 on land which originally formed part of the Market Square. The building of Barrabool sandstone ashlar is in an early 20th Century Renaissance Revival style with a corner tower incorporating the Austin clock. The Austin Clock, manufactured in London in 1855 and named after the mayor of Geelong (1854) who donated the clock , stood in a cast iron tower in the Market Square which was demolished in 1927 and later relocated in the tower upon it's completion in 1928.The clock manufactured in London in 1855 has grey dials with roman numerals and hands in a darker grey
