"In 1833, the church became the first Baptist church in Oneonta, according to a historical summary,. In 1903, the congregation moved into its current building, the summary said, and during the first third of that century membership reached more than 950."
"The church has about 15 members, Palada said Monday, with about 20 people attending Sunday services. Palada said he will remain with the congregation and the church’s harmonica band, Randy’s Harptones, will continue its outreach of performances...After that service, members will have a special procession with members carrying historic and religious elements from the church, including a Bible, communion cup and cross, Palada said. The procession will move from the church to the former parsonage, which will be the congregation’s newly designated worship center and the site of the next service at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 5."
"“The opportunity is a wonderful one,” Rubashkin said Monday. Jewish student life locally has been growing by “leaps and bounds,” he said, with occasions of attendance at weekly Shabbat dinners ranging from 75 to 140 guests at the current Walnut Street operations site.Arielle Carmel, president of Hillel at the State University College at Oneonta, said Rubashkin has been instrumental in growth of the Jewish student group to about 200 students from about 20 students about three-and-a-half years ago. The proposal is to turn the church into a Jewish student center, where undergraduates could study, meet and learn about Judaism, she said."
