The becnhmark is located at the western corner of the 1 acre of land carved out of this government preserve and given to the Barstow, CA Veterans of Foreign Wars chapter to settle a vexing constitutional dispute over the Mojave Cross, a memorial which had been erected on Sunrise Mountain 60 years before this area became government land.
