A plaque attached to a pillar outside the Town Hall commemorating the first meeting of the Greater Geelong City Council on 30th of March 1995. The new council came about as a result of a State Government decision to reduce the number of local town councils, the new City of Greater Geelong incorporated the former Cities of Geelong, Geelong West, Newtown and South Barwon, the Shire of Corio and the Bellarine Rural City.
