These sand dunes can be very tall and are at very steep angles. Some of them are a 50 degree angle and take a lot of effort to just get to the peak. I recommend to being water because if is about a mile walk just to get to the tallest sand dune and it gets hot on a regular basis. The tallest sand dunes are about 100 feet about sea level and the parking lot is about 100 feet below sea level. The scenes from the movie include The Sand Crawler Station scene where C3-PO And R2-D2 were bought by Luke Skywalker, and R2-D2 riding aimlessly around the sand dunes. The proof and evidence can be found at this website where there is a map and picture perfect locations all around Death Valley National Park.
