První zmínku o obci nalezneme v historických pramenech v roce 1369.
Nejvetší památkou obce je zdaleka viditelný rane gotický kostel kostel sv. Kateriny ze zacátku 14. stol. Kostel byl v 17. stol. prestaven v barokním slohu. Zajímavá je také pozdne barokní fara z 18. století. Na hrázi rybníka najdeme skupinu 3 památných dubu zimních.
Obec se proslavila natácením oblíbeného televizního seriálu Chalupári (z roku 1975). V nem obec vystupovala jako obec Trešnová. Seriál dobre zachycuje vzhled typické ceské vesnice v polovine 70. let.
