This small and elegant WoW tombstone sits in Pecan Grove Cemetery in McKinney TX.

It reads simply:

"JOHN R. CLARK
1884
1937

Gone but not forgotten"

So we dug a little on Ancestry. From his death certificate we learned that he was born in England, and at the time of his death lived at 1101 S. Chestnut Street near downtown. At the time of his death, he was working as a weaver, his job for 35 years. He was working in one of the large textile mills then operating in McKinney. He stopped working in April, and died a few weeks later of coronary thrombosis due to arteriosclerosis.

In the 1920 US Census we discovered that he immigrated to the US in 1902, but was not naturalized. His wife Minnie was an American citizen, born in Mississippi. Both are working as weavers at a cotton mill in McKinney.

In the 1930 US census, he and Minnie are boarding in the home of W. W. Nelson on Elm Street. He has become a naturalized US citizen. They are both still working as weavers, but John was NOT working on the last regular working day. He is no. 58 on the unemployment schedule to the 1930 census, which are not available on Ancestry because they don't exist.
Was the inscription legible?: Yes
