plaque text "Under the watchful care Vestal Hills Memorial Park was named after the Roman priestesses dedicated to the hearth and home who were known as the Vestal Virgins. Devout and purposeful in their work and revered by all, the Vestal Virgins were charged with maintaining the sacred fire within the Temple of Vesta in the Roman Forum. The families who select Vestal Hills Memorial Park as their final resting place are under the same watchful care as those ancient flames. We are committed to maintaining our beautiful landscape while providing a dignified setting where visitors can find comfort and serenity"

wikipedia "In ancient Rome, the Vestals or Vestal Virgins (Vestales, singular Vestalis) were priestesses of Vesta, goddess of the hearth. The College of the Vestals and its well-being was regarded as fundamental to the continuance and security of Rome. They cultivated the sacred fire that was not allowed to go out."

There were those who claim "the capture of Rome and the disintegration of its empire was due to the advent of the Christian era and its intolerance of the old gods who had defended the city for over a thousand years."
