The school is believed to have been built in the 19th century and was originally a church school. It closed in the early part of the 20th century when a new school in Trunch Road was opened, but evidence of its teaching past can still be seen through the large terracotta sign by the entrance stating “boys entrance”. Inspection around the accessable parts of the property did not yield a 'girls entrance' sign, it may have been lost in rennovations in the last 100 years, but it makes little sense to have had one without the other.
From 1952 it then became a parish hall, administered by the parochial church council, before being transformed into the library in 1963.
