Fredericksburg was founded as a German settlement in 1946, the same year the this cemetery saw its first burial. In the early years of the colony, an epidemic that affected German colonists who landed at in Indianola spread up the wagon road connecting the German settlements of New Braunfels and Fredericksburg, killing many settlers in each community. But Fredericksburg not only survived, it thrived.
As of 2016, this cemetery is the final resting place of over 7000 Fredericksburg pioneers and their descendants. Its entry is through this grand entry arch, located at N Lee and E Schubert Streets.
