This dam was created in the late 1700's across Purgatory Brook, that created Swan Pond. The pond feed a dairy farm located up the road. The current owner of the property built the bridge over the pond, which it lit at night. He also created a small hydroelectric feed from the dam to power the lights. The 1768 on the bridge indicates the year the dam was built by the original owners.
