There are many memorials (and a world-class museum) dedicated to FADM Chester Nimitz in this small German town where he was born. So this memorial can be forgiven for being small and subtle. It is set in a place of honor at Fredericksburg's Pioneer Memorial Gardens, with other noted Fredericksburg and Gillespie Co. TX luminaries.
The polished red granite meorial is decorated with an anchor and a small plaque that reads as follows:
"DEDICATED TO
FLEET ADMIRAL CHESTER W. NIMITZ
Native son of Fredericksburg
Commander –in-Chief, Pacific Fleet, WWII
125th Anniversary Inc.
1971"
