Sculpted by Josep Limona in 1903, Desconsol has become an emblem of Barcelona city. It depicts the figure of a naked woman sitting with her head resting between her arms, in an attitude of despair as its title indicates.

In 1907 Lemona sculpture was presented at the International Exhibition of Fine Arts in Barcelona, which earned him the Award of Honor.

In 1917 Lemona carved a replica in marble and a larger size of the sculpture for the oval pond in the garden in front of the old military arsenal in the parc de la Ciutadella. Damaged by pollution, the sculpture was replaced in 1984 by a copy of the work of 1917.
