Ce panneau d'information sur la biodiversité est situé au Parc Dollier-de-Casson rue Saint-Patrick. Près du sol et d'un petit aménagement paysagé tout proche de la piste cyclable du Canal Lachine côté Lachine.
Le projet « Le Canal Lachine prend son envol » Pro-vert Sud Ouest en association avec Parc Canada vise depuis 2009 à sensibiliser les citoyens du Sud-Ouest de Montréal et les utilisateurs du parc linéaire à l’impact de la pollution sur l’environnement ainsi qu’à l’importance du maintien et de l’accroissement de la biodiversité animale et végétale aux abords du Canal-de-Lachine. Pour y parvenir PVSO organise, en plus de plantations d’arbres et arbustes, des kiosques et des corvées de nettoyages des berges.
La biodiversité est définie par la synergie et la diversité entre tous les organismes vivants présents tant flore que faune dans un milieu donné.
Il est primordial de maintenir cette biodiversité, particulièrement en ville où les terrains boisés sont limités. Pour ce faire, plantez des espèces variées, vivaces et indigènes sur votre terrain ou votre balcon. Vous contribuez à la lutte aux insectes nuisibles en diversifiant la population de leurs prédateurs. Ces espèces résistent mieux aux maladies et a la pollution et contribuent à améliorer la richesse du sol.
De plus les mouches pollinisatrices, les colibris, les bourdons, les papillons et les abeilles ont un rôle primordial dans le pollinisation de plusieurs cultures mondiales telles que les bleuets, la tomate, le café, le cacao les canneberges et bien plus. C’est plus du trois quart des espèces qui dépendent de ces petites bêtes. Sans les polinisateurs c’est l’ensemble de la biodiversité animal et végétale en plus de la chaine alimentaire qui est bouleversée. Plantez :aster, lupin, échinacée, tournesol, verveine, ail penché, lys, asclépiade, primevère, cerisier, fraisiers, pommiers, violette, etc.
