The 'large' (20 cm x 30 cm) brass plaque has some of the original varnish worn of it, so it was looking a bit 'worse for wear'. It is screwed to the two wooden back slats, with the seat part of the bench only having three wooden slats.
The plaque reads: (and 'endorsed' by - (

Died result of road accident
December 1981
Always remembered by his workmates.
There is quite a long ramp that curves down into the impressive sinkhole that is about 40 m in diameter. There are a few interpretative signs on the descent to explain the formation of a sinkhole in the unique geology of the Mount Gambier region.
