One of the many homesteads that can be found in and around the Shenandoah National Park. I am always amazed that people actually farmed this land before it was a National Park.

Park at the posted coords and head up the Rose River Fire Road Trail for about a half mile. Along the river side you'll notice an old and almost toppled chimney from an abandoned farm house.

I wonder how often the nearby Rose River flooded this small farm house?

If you walk through the forest and see the house you'll notice there are rocks and trees. No sun and no soil. What grows in the shade and amongst the rocks?
