The font dates from the 15th century, but was re-cut during the restorations in the 19th century. It is a victorian vision of what a 15th century font looked like.... who knows what the original design was like.
The stem is surrounded by 'wild men' or 'woodwoses' (

A man - St Matthew
A lion - St Mark
An ox - St Luke
An eagle - St John
The carvings alternate with angels playing some form of stringed instruments.
