EN: The Dreizackbrunnen (trident fountain) is located in the old city of Basel, where Münsterberg joins Freie Strasse.
The stone basin has a square shape with shamrock-like bulges. The round fountain column has four gargoyles in the form of basilisks. Atop the column sits a stone dolphin with a bronze trident.
The fountain was created in 1837 by Melchior Berri, one of the most famous architects of neoclassicism, who also became known for the design of the first multicolored stamp in the world.
DE: Der Dreizackbrunnen befindet sich in der Altstadt von Basel, wo der Münsterberg in die Freie Strasse mündet.
Der steinerne Brunnentrog ist quadratisch mit kleeblattartigen Ausbuchtungen. Die runde Brunnensäule hat vier Wasserspeier in der Form von Basilisken. Auf der Säule throhnt ein Delfin aus Stein und ein bronzener Dreizack.
Der Brunnen wurde 1837 von Melchior Berri geschaffen, einem der bekanntesten Architekten des Neoklassizismus, der vor allem auch durch die Gestaltung der ersten mehrfarbigen Briefmarke der Welt bekannt wurde.
