This may once have been a finely carved piscina with hooded niche. Possibly 14th century and contemporary with the structure of the nave. A piece seems to have been cut out from the top left corner to form a small aumbry. Here (at the time of visiting) it appeared to hold a harvest offering of some ears of wheat.
