La collégiale Notre-Dame de Melun fut fondée entre 1016 et 1031 par le roi de France Robert II le Pieux à l'emplacement d'une précédente église Notre-Dame.En 1031, la nef, les bas-côtés, le transept et la base des clochers, encore visibles aujourd'hui, sont déjà bâtis. Ces éléments correspondent au style roman. Les piliers carrés et dépouillés encadrent des fenêtres de dimensions réduites.
La toiture et la plus grande partie des vitraux sont détruits durant les bombardements de la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Les vitraux manquants sont refaits en 1955 par Calixte Poupart.
L'intérieur (nef, transept) et l'extérieur (nef, bas-côtés) de la collégiale ont été partiellement restaurés entre 2003-2005 par l'architecte en chef des Monuments Historiques Jacques Moulin.
The Notre -Dame de Melun was founded between 1016 and 1031 by the King of France Robert II the Pious at the site of a previous church of Our Dame.En 1031 the nave, aisles , transept and basic Owl, still visible today , are already built . These elements correspond to the Romanesque style. The square pillars and bare frame of the small size of windows.
The roof and most of the windows are destroyed during the bombings of World War II . Missing windows were redone in 1955 by Calixte Poupart .
The interior ( nave , transept ) and outside ( nave , aisles ) of the college have been partially restored in 2003-2005 by the chief architect of the Historical Monuments Jacques Moulin.
