An allegorical figure representing Science is located on the left and on top of the front steps to the Boston Public Library at 700 Boylston Street in Copely Square. It is the leftmost of a pair of sculptures representing Art and Science.

An 84" by 60" by 48" bronze allegorical female figure is depicted seated in an arm chair with her arms on the arm rests and her knees and head pointing towards the the entrance to the library. She is wearing a jacket with a hood over a floor length dress. The toes of her right foot protrude through the bottom of the dress. She is gazing down at a sphere that she is holding the upright palm of her left hand. The sculpture was created by Bela Lyon Pratt and installed on at the Boston Public Library in 1911.
The granite base is 61" by 168" by 58" and consists of a lower section flanked by two inscription blocks. The left and right blocks are inscribed respectively:
